 Daily news from the Canaries and the islands' biggest English language newspaper on-line Royals in Canaries Prince and princess to visit El Hierro Their Royal Highnesses, Prince Felipe and Princess Letizia will visit the island of El Hierro on January 30th where they will celebrate the prince’s 44th birthday.  The Prince and Princess visited the Canarian stand during the recent Madrid tourism fair, Fitur, and spoke to the Herreño Cabildo president, Alpidio Armas, about the ongoing situation and the economic damage caused by the volcano. The prince’s concern for the people of the small island has translated into action with his decision to visit at the end of the month. During Fitur the El Hierro Cabildo also worked to turn the volcanic activity to their advantage, selling potential tourists a unique opportunity to see volcanic activity from a position of safety, as well as enjoying the delights of the island itself.
