Child alcoholism
Parents to be fined?
The Canarian government is currently considering the possibility of fining parents whose children have become alcoholics or who regularly end up in hospital through drunkenness.

19.06.2013 - Delegate for the National Drugs Prevention Plan, Francisco Babn, made the announcement justifying the possible move by saying that allowing children to regularly succumb to the effects of alcohol could be seen as a lack of effective parenting. Babn was speaking during the presentation of the latest anti-youth alcohol campaign titled, Those Who Dont which aims to educate youngsters and parents about the dangers of turning to drink from a young age. However, the proposal has already come up against criticism from youth groups who say that fines do not work as a method of prevention and the most important factor in this growing problem is even more education at all levels.
