03.07.2012 - Around 85 members and their guests attended the event, including the British Consul Maria Leng, which took place at the prestigious Hotel Paradise Park. Ken Sadler, presiding Master of Ceremonies introduced Phil Glock, outgoing President, to perform his final duties of office in presenting the club annual awards. The Lion of the Year award went to Colin Slade for his efforts in organising the clubs Dream Holiday project. Phil spoke of the Clubs achievements for the year and thanked fellow members for their support, concluding his term as President by handing over the Chain of Office to incoming President Norman Goodall MBE. Guests then moved into the dining area to Welcome In the new President, his Lady, Edna Goodall and Guest of Honour, Maria Leng, before the commencement of the Gala Dinner service, a beautifully presented five-course meal reflecting the hotels dining excellence. Following the Grace given by the new President, Maria Leng as British Consul to the Canary Islands was called upon to give the Loyal Toasts to His Majesty King Juan Carlos of Spain and Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. In his presidential speech Norman said: Lions Clubs, by the very nature of their code We Serve, will always be there when help is needed. At this particular time of financial austerity, Tenerife Sur Lions Club is prepared to act as a shield, or beacon of hope, be it for an individual, a family or group who need help and support. Challenging the assembled company he concluded by saying Now is the time Lions are needed more than ever in our Community...could you be a Lion? A big thank you to all who worked so hard behind the scenes to make the evening a success, especially to Beryl Sadler and the staff and management of the Paradise Park Hotel.
