07.09.2010 - At 54 per cent of the workers, the number is considerably higher than last year’s figure of 10 per cent according to the consumer group Eroski. It would seem that circumstances are obliging Spanish workers to change their lifestyles, sacrifice their free time and seek a second job. According to a study by Randstad most are trying to find extra work at weekends or additional part time work during the day which is compatible with their existing job. Still others are making use of their holidays to gain extra cash. The most popular jobs are telephone operator, hostess, promotion or public help desks. Of those looking for extra work 29 per cent have completed basic education, 22 per cent have studied some form of professional training, 19 per cent have completed their bachillerato (pre university or A level equivalent) and only 22 per cent have some form of university qualification. The majority are non-Spaniards who are looking for higher incomes although they have to work very long days.
