Banks under pressure

00.00.0000 -

When funds are abundant, few of us scrutinise our bank statements as well as we should, but when things are difficult every cent is tracked and this is reflected in the huge increase in complaints against banks and savings banks in 2009.

According to figures just released by the Banco de Espaa, 13,640 people placed official complaints about their banks or savings banks, an increase of 93 per cent over 2008.  Out of all those who filed a complaint, 33 per cent were settled in favour of the complainant, just over half, 55 per cent, were in favour of the financial institutions and the remainder were settled by arbitration before settlement or are pending because of lack of proof or because the complaint wasnt made to the right body.  A total of 6,397,017 was returned to the clients by banks and savings banks, proving that it is worth going ahead if you feel you have a legitimate claim.
