18.10.2004 - In a study of 2,500 expatriates around the world 65 per cent said that health care was their main concern, followed by standards of accommodation at a third and political unrest at a fifth. When asked about what they missed about their homeland the majority missed family and friends followed by the loss of arts and entertainment.

Despite all this, most expats said their new way of life was most enjoyable. Spain came out as the place where most expats had noticed there had been big improvements compared to their homeland. 90 per cent of expats who lived in Spain considered the country better than their own. The United Arab Emirates, South Africa, Italy, Australia, also fared well in the poll.

Paul Covey, head of marketing at Bupa International said, Despite the increasingly transient nature of the worlds workforce, there is no such thing as a typical expat.Individuals have a different sense of belonging, whether it be to their home or host country.
