- According to the Spanish federation of funeral companies, a burial can cost anything between 2,000 to 2,800 euros, and death generates business of up to 3,000 million euros per year in Spain of which only 700 – 900 euros is for funeral companies with the rest going on cemeteries, flowers, masses, and orbituarys.
The coffin is one of the highest expenses of burials, at around 510 euros. The niche costs 300 euros, the wake is no less than 200 euros and the funeral car costs approximately 150 euros. All in all quite a large sum that some families have trouble to find. For this reason the Confederation of users and Consumers (CECU) advises that a specific insurance policy that covers funeral costs is taken out.
According to Price Waterhouse Coopers consultants, cremation is becoming more and more popular and in Spain represents 19 percent of funeral rituals, expecting to reach 25 per cent in 2008.
