30.03.2014 - Figures released by the Ministry of Labour show that last month saw a drop of nearly 500 in the number of people registered as out of work at Job Centres across the islands compared to January.  Although slight, the fall is a significant reversal of the trend seen in previous years, when February has always brought more, not fewer, unemployed.  The bulk of the new jobs are in the construction industry, indicating an upturn in activity in the sector.  The jobless total currently stands at 275,551, still one of the highest rates in the country and over 13 per cent of those unemployed have never held a job of any description!
