Canarian President
Recession exit
The President of the Canaries used his Sunday blog to reiterate his belief that the islands are emerging from the doldrums at a quicker pace than the rest of Spain.

24.04.2014 - Paulino Rivero says the signs of recovery are now self-evident and the islands have managed to halt job losses and turn the corner on job creation.  However, he warned that the incipient recovery must not only be economic.  "Unless economic recovery is accompanied by benefits for the population in the form of social progress it will count for nothing," said Rivero in his weekly column on Internet, adding that the inequalities exacerbated by the crisis since 2008 must be addressed as a matter of urgency.  The president's upbeat interpretation of the current climate comes on the heels of the optimistic forecasts published by the Chambers of Commerce in recent weeks.
