EU funding to continue into 2006
Regional industry and finance minister José Carlos Mauricio has just completed the first round of talks with the European commission regarding special funding for the islands.

Canary Islands - 09.12.2004 - The minister announced that he has achieved an agreement to extend RIC (special investment) funding to the end of 2006 – it was initially due to end on December 31st of next year.

The minister also stated that the incoming Commission were fully aware that the Canary Islands maintained the right to full possible public assistance as an ultra-peripheral region within the EU.
