Development of the coasts around the once sleepy fishing village of Playa San Juan, southwest Tenerife, is racing onwards with the confirmation of several large projects.
30.03.2015 - To start with, the two new luxury hotels which have been in the pipeline for a while have now been given the green light definitively.
They will house between them a total of 1100 new ‘beds’ for the area, as well as, hopefully, attracting increased tourism, of course.
A housing scheme which will include 99 new residences is also planned.
The hold-ups so far seem to have centered around environmental issues and the question of the return the hotels will provide for the local community, such as coastal paths and public areas. However, these have now been agreed and mayor of the area, Pedro Martín, announced confidently that work on the projects is expected to start within the next few months.
The development of Guía de Isora is progressing very tastefully and every effort is being made, seemingly, to continue improvements in the same theme. However, the new port at Fonsalia is still a long way off from becoming a reality. Martín stressed that the project is “highly important”, but also announced that it will mean an investment of €200 million of both public and private funds which, at the moment, is a “long-term goal”.
