 Daily news from the Canaries and the islands' biggest English language newspaper on-line El Puertito Boat builders The fourth recycled boat regatta took place recently in El Puertito in Adeje on the eve of San Juan, on June 23rd. 
The winners were the designers and navigators of La Chapusa, a boat which was three days in the making, from, as is the rule, recycled materials including plastic water containers, cork and wooden pallets. According to Adeje youth councillor Nayra Medina Bethencourt, the regatta saw the participation of lots of young boat builders between the ages of 12 and 19 from all over the borough, with more and more craft entering the competition each year, which are “annually more sophisticated and of higher quality”. Trophies were presented by the company in partnership with the council for their ‘Podemos Adeje Recicla’ (Adeje recycling – we can do it), Ascan Torrabonaf, with the main award being a sculpture depicting three recycling bins. Following the regatta there was live music, and a beach party as well as the traditional San Juan bonfires.
