 Daily news from the Canaries and the islands' biggest English language newspaper on-line Fundraising Dual charity lunch A 15 year old British boy who is going to work in a South African orphanage as part of his Duke of Edinburgh Award needed to raise money for the journey and also for the orphanage.  Ann offered to organise a fundraising lunch for William and his trip to the Zulu Fadder Orphanage and School in Eshowe and the boy’s immediate response was to share the charity event with one of Ann’s regular charity beneficiaries, the Association San Lazaro-Proyectos Martha Centres for children with cerebral palsy in La Laguna, which he has visited several times with her. Two of the children, Vanessa and Zaira, and their carers joined them for the lunch. Almost 60 people attended the lunch at the Bello Horizonte restaurant in San Juan de la Rambla which is under new management. Four courses of authentic and delicious Italian cuisine were enjoyed with home made foccia bread to accompany the feast and a medley of fresh fruit to finish. The entrance ticket for the lunch also included a prize voucher for a meal at the Bello Horizonte, everyone had to choose a number and the winner was drawn by Vanessa from the centre. Included amongst over 40 prizes were entry tickets to Loro Parque and Siam Park, a weekend for two at Spring Hotel group’s Bitácora in Playa de las Américas, tickets for the Pirámides de Güímar, Buenos Aires Fans, cava, wine, a basket of beauty products from the chemist Isabel Sánchez Guion Icod, plants and gifts from Salena Florists, Icod etc. The new five star hotel, Vincci Buenavista Hotel and Spa, generously gave two nights in the hotel worth nearly €300, which was auctioned and brought in a lot. In total just over £1,500 was raised to be divided between two charities and Ann and William would like to thank all who attended and gave so generously. Thank you too to the numerous people who could not attend but sent donations, to the people who helped and all who gave raffle prizes. After years of experience organising events, Ann reckons that this was the best ever, the most fun.
