 Daily news from the Canaries and the islands' biggest English language newspaper on-line Santa Cruz Mayoral dilemma More infighting in the conservative Popular Party in Tenerife could scupper its chances of wresting the mayorship of Santa Cruz from current holders, the nationalist Canarian Coalition. Llanos agreed to step aside but has made it clear that he intends to stand as a candidate in next year’s local elections. He is convinced he will win due to his popularity among voters in Santa Cruz, but his bid may be thwarted by the PP’s leader in Tenerife Cristina Tavio, who is thought to favour a different candidate. In the meantime, local media continue to give ample coverage to Llanos, as he steps up his ‘man of the people’ campaign to be nominated.
