The Lexus RX 400h revolution
T.his, the world’s first high performance hybrid SUV, is described as a revolutionary petrol-electric hybrid which ventures into the realms of intelligent high performance motoring. Somehow Lexus have made this compatible with low fuel consumption and reduced emissions.

16.03.2008 - The RX 400h has a variable valve timing with intelligence (VVT-i) 3.3 litre V6 petrol engine with two electric motors which work together giving smooth power and responsiveness, taking the car to 62mph (100kph) in less than eight seconds.

The driving force

Power is sent exactly where it’s needed. When you want acceleration, power from the petrol engine and electric motors is sent to the wheels. When you are slowing down, the energy produced by the petrol engine and from vehicle braking is used to recharge the batteries. Formidable performance and impressive fuel economy combine to give you a car that’s a joy to drive.

One-touch front and rear electric windows, automatic climate control, separate driver and passenger seat temperature controls, carpet floor mats plus optional premium audio system are just some of the features adding to your comfort and pleasure. On the practical side, the adjustable rear seats fold down to increase the luggage area which comes with a 12v accessory power outlet.

Finishing touches

The RX 400h comes with sports chrome door handles and distinctive round fog lamps giving an air of elegance. Lexus Hybrid Drive signature headlight covers which have a blue tint, as do the badges on the vehicle, are standard equipment.  The front door scuff plates feature blue illumination and a redesigned radiator grille gives a more sporty look.

A four wheel drive system called the E-Four increases efficiency while giving you a feeling of security on the road. When you are starting up, accelerating, braking or stopping, all wheels are driven, keeping you comfortable and in control. When you are cruising, however, E-Four automatically switches the RX 400h into two-wheel drive, improving fuel economy.

Safety and Stability

This vehicle also benefits from the latest generation of Lexus’s Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM) which gathers together all of the car’s safety and stability resources into a ‘thinking’ unit that can anticipate and deal with problems long before they bother you. Other features include front and rear MacPherson struts, brake assist, traction control, electronic power steering, electronically controlled braking, airbags, disc brakes all round and front seats designed to lessen whiplash injury.

If versatility, intelligence and luxury are what you’re looking for, then this is the car for you. To find out more about the Lexus RX 400h, contact your local branch of the Toyota Canarias group, or visit:
