 Reviews and test drives Motoring news Two more prizes for Toyota Toyota has once again won the Ecological Engine of the Year prize with its Hybrid Synergy Drive available in the Prius and the new Auris HSD. The 1.0-litre VVT-i engine for the Aygo, iQ and Yaris models was awarded the Sub-1.0-litre Engine of the Year prize.  All engines were tested and judged by a panel of 72 specialised journalists in 35 countries. This is the fourth time in the last five years that the Hybrid Synergy Drive, produced in the UK, has won this prize. It was described by the judges as, “the essence of mechanical engineering, .... which continues to be the best green technology available in the market, trustworthy and hardwearing, with a really low CO2 emission level”. For the 1.0-litre engine, this is its fourth consecutive award. Of aluminium construction, this three cylinder petrol motor weighs only 67 kilos and is the most potent 1.0-litre unit in its segment with extremely low fuel consumption.
