 | Wine30.03.2008 - Vino de Calidad de Arribes
This region was given the status of Vino de la Tierra in 1998, its near to the border with Portugal.
A region with a long wine growing history, it’s got a Mediterranean climate with Atlantic influences. It has 1,260 hectares of vineyards with some very old vines. The main variety is Juan García, an indigenous grape that performs very well in ageing, with Rufete, Tempranillo and Garnacha as complementary varieties. The main white variety is the Malvasía with Verdejo and the Albillo as well. One other grape worth noting is the indigenous Brunal which only exists in Arribes del Duero and which will be shortly accepted by the regional council.

 | Wine12.02.2008 - Pingus 2004 red
This is the créme de la créme of Spanish table wine, a well balanced wine but one that is slightly slower to develop then the previous vintage and as such is more closed. Peter Sisseck is the wine maker at this Bodega and he is a firm believer in putting elegance before anything else. He is a young man who was born in Denmark and is hailed as a genius in the vineyard. He has been producing astonishing results in a very short period of time. Yields are very low, the wines are very concentrated, allocation is tiny. The Crianza and Reserva wines are made from ancient Tempranillo vines, and all in all this is probably the best Spanish wine you could buy from the 2004 vintage.
