This region was given the status of Vino de la Tierra in 1998, its near to the border with Portugal.

A region with a long wine growing history, its got a Mediterranean climate with Atlantic influences. It has 1,260 hectares of vineyards with some very old vines. The main variety is Juan Garca, an indigenous grape that performs very well in ageing, with Rufete, Tempranillo and Garnacha as complementary varieties. The main white variety is the Malvasa with Verdejo and the Albillo as well. One other grape worth noting is the indigenous Brunal which only exists in Arribes del Duero and which will be shortly accepted by the regional council.
