It is said that the eldest son of a well to do family in Tarragona ran a small bleach factory in the Calle Hospital, ‘Gardenia soaps and bleach’. The young count fell madly in love with a young seamstress called Núria. Despite their social differences the couple married, promising eternal love. His family didn’t approve of the match and they made things difficult for the young couple. So much so that when times became tough, they ‘helped’ the soap into bankruptcy. Núria went back to sewing and Jaume looked around desperately for a way to earn his living. However, all was not bad news as on an April day a lovely baby girl was born, they called her Rosita.
The day after the baptism, a relative came to visit them, Doménech Güansé Salesas a well known Tarraconense literati. It was he who encouraged them to go to Cuba and start afresh. Little is known of their time there, but when they returned they came back with the recipe for a beer which they called Rosita.
Varieties
Rosita original
According to World’s Best Beer, Rosita is a Pale Ale from a small micro in the Mediterranean coastal town of Tarragona in southern Catalonia. A top fermented bottle-conditioned hazy pale ale with a superb soft sparkle and citrus hop bitterness.
The production process is completely artisan and at no moment are chemicals added to conserve the beer or to corrupt its flavour and scent.
Rosita d’ivori
Very light lager with fruity overtones. Clear and light in colour with a creamy foam. Very refreshing.
Rosita negra
Brown ale with a strong hazelnut colour and creamy foam. The hazelnuts of Alcover mean that it combines excellently with chocolate desserts.
Rosita picant
A spicy beer, amber in colour with orange tints and white, creamy ivory coloured foam. It has an exotic scent of coriander and ginger and a full flavour of mature fruit and toasted malt.
Rosita Blue
A honey coloured beer of a fine gasification, white creamy foam with ivory tones. Fruity and persistent on the nose, sweet with citric touches of Kafir lime on the palate.
Rosita Voll
A winter beer with a strong golden colour and reflections of sugar caramel. Lasting ivory coloured foam, with a scent of toasted almonds and coffee. Sweet on the first taste with an enveloping flavour due to its good combination of malts.
Where can you find Rosita?
It’s a special beer found at quality bars and restaurants, where you can enjoy good company or dedicate a little time to yourself. If you want to get in touch with your nearest distributor send an email to beu@rosita.cat and the company will put you in touch with them.
