In recent years the island has increased its cultural output dramatically, and with the opening of some excellent venues, such as the Auditorio in Santa Cruz, with a packed agenda monthly, as well as the Magma Arte & Congresos in Las Américas, who are presenting an ever increasing range of theatrical events for adults and kids, the choice is improving daily.

In South Tenerife the aforementioned Magma has just finished a seasonal run of children’s theatre in conjunction with schools in the region and also presented Swan Lake with the Moscow Ballet, who also performed in the Teatro Leal in La Laguna. In fact the presence of the venue in South Tenerife is seeing more and more top groups and artistes, who in the past only performed in Santa Cruz, also scheduling in at least one performance in this part of the island.  As well as that keep an eye out for the summer concerts organised by local councils, such as Alejandro Sanz in Adeje on August 28^th.

Residents and regular visitors to South Tenerife will also be aware of the excellent flamenco shows performed nightly at the Piramide de Arona, choreographed by one of Spain’s leading exponents of dance, Carmen Mota.  The current show is Alma, and is a terrific fusion of traditional and modern in a series of individual dances, quite spectacularly performed.

For something slightly different check out Rock Story, a brilliant evening of music and stage shows paying homage to the music of, Queen, Abba and Pink Floyd, at Exit Palace in Las Américas.  A three hour very professional show, this should also be in your events diary.

Local councils are also increasing their cultural offerings with the cultural centres in most towns hosting a selection of events, many of them free to the public.  Look out for local notices of events or call into the cultural centres to find out more – most of these events will, of course, be in Spanish, but music and dance are international!  There are also a lot of innovative summer specials like cinema on the beach or outdoors in local plazas, and any local fiesta is always worth a visit, with live music, carousels for the kids, and drink and food stalls.
