Another beautiful sunny day beckoned as we were welcomed by General Manager Maca Rodríguez.
MC REFORM Tenerife Renovation | 15.08.2010 - The layout consists of three separate nine hole courses - North, South and Links - each unique in their own way and any two are combined to provide eighteen holes of very varied and enjoyable golf.
We collected our buggy with its Prolink satellite navigation system and set off on the North course. The first hole is in pristine condition with a barranco on top of a hill forming a hazard across the fairway before dropping down to a green 100 metres below. This evidenced the re-modelling project which altered this hole from a Par 5 to a Par 4. Hole 2 provided me with my first par of the day, a straightforward Par 3 over a small valley to an elevated green guarded by black sand bunkers. Improvements to Hole 3 have lengthened it to a Par 5 (previously a Par 4) with a barranco running the length of the fairway to the extended green. This hole was previously Stroke Index one. Hole 4 presents an uphill Par 4 with a barranco jutting into the fairway from the right hand side and the green perched on top of a steep hill - nonetheless my second par of the day. Hole 5 is a long Par 5 extended a couple of years ago, now requiring 3 good strokes to reach the green within regulation. The Stroke Index one rating is now given to Hole 7 with its pond in front of the green requiring a really good tee shot to avoid having to lay up with the second. Hole 8 is a fairly long Par 3 which warrants the Stroke Index 2 difficulty, with the green guarded by a bunker along the entire front of the green. A straightforward Par 4 brings the North course to a satisfying close.
So, on to the Links with its very attractive first hole with elevated tee and fairway running steeply left to right with green waiting far below. Hole 3 has an attractive water hazard which your drive needs to carry, but then the fairway slopes downhill to the green for a Par 5 which low handicappers will reach in 2 shots. Hole 4 is now a challenging winding Par 5 with both a stream and a lake guarding the new green. Hole 6 is another hole which has changed for the better. Previously a Par 3 over a valley, you now drive from an elevated tee to a narrow target area and from there dog leg left to the green. My final par of the day was presented by Hole 7.
