Craniosacral Therapy (CST) is a popular and gentle alternative healing procedure.

13.04.2014 - CST has its origins in osteopathy and can bring enormous benefits for overall health.  It is very gentle and patients will feel only the soft touch of the practitioner’s hands and the movement of the hands around the head.  The therapist can adjust their rhythm to suit individual clients and their needs and wishes.

CST releases restrictions in the soft tissues that surround the central nervous system, which can relieve specific pain and improve general health.  This is because the brain and spinal cord that make up the central nervous system are heavily influenced by the craniosacral system which consists of the membranes and fluid that surround, protect and nourish the brain and spinal cord.

It can even has a positive effect on our moods: memory cells are activated which can lead to the resolution of emotional, psychological and physical traumas that have been accumulated over the years and which have manifested in the body and still cause pain.

By gently laying on their hands, therapists can feel how well the cerebrospinal fluid is pulsing around the brain and spinal cord.  The soft-touch techniques then release any restrictions, allowing the fluids to once again be delivered around the body correctly.

Craniosacral therapy is an excellent way to activate your own self-healing responses and overcome many types of chronic pain. It is also a very enjoyable experience as the whole body falls into a state of deep relaxation.

For more information on this healing art, you can contact physiotherapist Elena Hertz.  She is based in Chayofa, Adeje and Tegueste and can also do home visits.  Please call: 600 424 252.
