The ballet dancer widely considered to be the world’s best broke a hospital vigil to keep her promise to perform in Gran Canaria.
Sylvie Guillem kept her word and performed Sacred Monsters in Las Palmas 24.11.2007
- French ballerina Sylvie Guillem travelled to Las Palmas to perform her enormously successful Sacred Monsters show, a unique blend of classical dancing and Indian-inspired music, despite the serious illness of her British co-dancer Akhram Khan, who was in a critical condition in a Swiss hospital on the day Guillem had to fly to the Canaries.
The 42-year-old former star of the Paris Ballet and Royal Ballet in London asked to be excused from giving the usual pre-show press conference at the Cuyás Theatre because of the circumstances.
She was booked to perform in Las Palmas over a year ago and the organisers thought she might have to pull out in view of long-term partner Khan’s condition.
