 Daily news from the Canaries and the islands' biggest English language newspaper on-line Landscape pollution Cabildo mast vow Gran Canaria’s Cabildo is to take a tougher line on mobile phone masts as of this year, although the decision to act is by no means recent.  One council in particular, San Bartolomé de Tirajana in the south of Gran Canaria (where many complaints have been received from residents), has been told to make sure that applications to erect masts are vetted carefully and permission should only be given if all health safeguards are provided. However, the announcement has been criticised by telecommunications engineers, who say that authoritative reports have shown no causal link between the masts and sickness.
