 Daily news from the Canaries and the islands' biggest English language newspaper on-line Fare campaign Bus persuasion for guides Las Palmas took the unusual step recently of inviting tourist guides from the resorts in the south of Gran Canaria to visit the capital and take a ride on the city’s Tour Bus.  Employees from top tour operators including Thomas Cook, Neckermann, TUI and JMC were ferried up for the day to see the city’s main sights on the double-decker bus and be briefed on what Las Palmas has to offer for visitors. The local Tourism Board says it hopes the campaign will encourage the tour operators to include more day-trips to the capital for their customers. The fleet of Tour Buses already carried around 700,000 people every year and the Board wants to increase the figure by 10 per cent with the initiative.
