25.03.2015 - The owner of the fish farm, which breeds seabass for the island market, reported his suspicions that his fish were being stolen shortly after being brought ashore by boat. Surveillance helped establish that employees of the fish farm diverted part of the day’s load to a waiting van parked on the quayside. Officers allowed the thefts to continue for a period to identify the fate of the seabass and soon discovered that it was delivered to a Las Palmas address, from where it was sold under the counter to a number of fish shops and restaurants. In all, police calculate that over 1,000 kilos of the prized fish was diverted before it could reach its destination. A total of six people have been arrested in connection with the racket.
