01.05.2015 - The modus operandi of the highly-organised gang came to light after banks reported their suspicions that businesses in various parts of the country with no known commercial activity were applying for point of sale (POS) terminals. Police put the firms under cyber-surveillance and discovered that they were fronts for payments for ghost transactions, the proceeds of which went straight to other accounts used by the gang.  Raids on premises in several parts of Spain, including Gran Canaria, in mid-April led to 54 arrests and the seizure of cloning equipment and terminals used by the fraudsters, who processed cards stolen in the United States, Colombia, Venezuela and other countries.
