Premiership basketball return for Tenerife?
Tenerife has a slim chance of hosting top-flight basketball next season due to a bizarre ruling by a Spanish court. The ACB League, won this season by TAU - who defeated Barcelona in the final- has been forced to reinstate a team that was relegated over a decade ago after a court ruled that its opponents during the crucial relegation match fielded an ineligible player.

09.07.2008 - Since then the club affected, Obradoiro, has dropped down several divisions and now plays semi-professional basketball. The ruling means that it can, if it wishes, regain its place among the likes of Real Madrid, TAU and Barcelona. To accommodate it, the league would probably have to add another team to make sure of an even number (20). Having finished third in last seasons LEB league, and with the two sides who filled the top two spots already promoted, Tenerife Rural might receive an invitation to make up the numbers.

The club says it has heard nothing official but would react appropriately if the offer were to be made. Tenerife lost their premiership status in May 2005.
