 Local, regional and national sports news Kalise: Joel Freeland NBA chance English basketball player Joel Freeland may get his chance to play in the NBA sooner rather than later.  Portland’s general manager Kevin Pritchard says he would like Freeland to take part with the club in the Summer Leagues in the US but the player’s European Championship commitments with Great Britain may prove an obstacle. Pritchard acknowledged that Freeland has, “progressed considerably” this year although he still had some aspects of his game that, “needed work”. Pressed on whether the Englishman would be turning out for Portland next season, Pritchard said he would have to wait and see the scouting reports but he was confident Freeland would be an NBA player sooner or later. Ironically, the speculation surrounding a possible move comes as Portland’s other Canarian, Sergio Rodríguez, dropped his strongest hint yet that he wants to leave for another club. “I have been here three years and am clearly no more in the coach’s plans than I was at the beginning,” said Rodríguez, who is to host a coaching course in Gran Canaria in the summer.
