- The spindly Socas Canarias forward from Pittsburgh has again shown that his lack of kilos and height is no obstacle to taking on much bigger and bulkier opponents in the LEB league. Donaldson’s shooting and rebounds, not to mention his crowd-thrilling blocks, brought him the player of the month accolade for December, adding to his November award and the overall MVP nomination for last year.
Along with partner Ricardo Guillén, who was runner-up in December after regaining the form that persuaded the La Laguna side to sign him in the summer, Donaldson has terrorised the other teams in the league, helping Socas to fourth place at the half-way point. The pair’s contribution helped the side to chalk up its biggest win ever in the LEB, a thrashing by 34 points away at Vigo, which they followed up with a spectacular win at home to resurgent Ourense (92-84).
Meanwhile, near-neighbours Tenerife Rural’s erratic season continued with a defeat away to Breogán in a game they should have won but let slip at the end. Recent signing Lou Roe maintained his good form, which belies his status as one of the oldest players in the league.
