Tummy trouble
Polish trip proves costly
Gran Canaria’s Euro Cup trip to Poland was a resounding success in terms of the result but the visit proved costly in other ways.

04.02.2010 - Almost half the ACB basketball side came down with food poisoning shortly during the crucial visit, which saw Gran Canaria win to book a place in the last 16 of the competition.  The players returned to Las Palmas with stomach problems and it looked as if a formal request might have to be made to the league to call off the week-end fixture against Joventut in Barcelona.

However, coach Pedro Martínez preferred to go ahead with the game despite his depleted squad. The gamble paid off and James Augustine and Jaycee Carroll turned in storming performances to help Gran Canaria to a badly needed 89-79 win against the  fifth Catalans. The ACB league, the best in Europe, is led by Barcelona.
