Iberostar Tenerife
Signings impact
The dramatic slide down the league table by Tenerife’s only top-flight basketball side since the turn of the year forced the club to delve into the market and snap up two players who, it is hoped, will help stave off any prospect of relegation.

14.04.2014 - Iberostar Tenerife has brought in two names familiar to fans here, given that both Carl English and Dan Kickert played previously for neighbours Gran Canaria.  Shooting guard English was without a team after returning to his native Canada following several seasons in Spain with various top clubs.  He brings badly-needed point-scoring ability to the side, who lost their way as of January, plunging to the danger spots in the league.  Power forward Kickert, meanwhile, was snapped up quickly by the club from Ukraine as one of the big names to decide to pack their bags and leave the troubled country due to the conflict with Russia.  The arrival of the experienced Australian international plugs the massive hole left by the departure of the La Laguna club’s star player, Blagota Sekulic, to Turkey in February.  Fans are hoping the new faces adapt quickly to the style of coach Alejandro Martínez as time is running out to pull clear of the drop zone definitively.  Coincidence or not, the news of the signings spurred the team to break the dismal run by beating high-flying Gran Canaria in the regional derby, coming from 17 points behind to snatch a dramatic 72-68 win.
