Tenerife Sur
Winning ways
Clear Blue Tenerife Sur A 1:0 San Martin
Tenerife Sur went into this game hoping to break a disappointing run of results, against a San Martin team whose season has not really got going but who always provide formidable opposition.

04.02.2010 - Sur started without a number of their senior A team players who were either injured or unavailable, and had to defend stoutly for long periods of the game. However it was also evident that San Martin were more interested in not losing than making any strides forward, and the first half consisted mostly of both teams shadow boxing.  The second half saw the play open up more, and Sur had B team striker Damien Dinsmore, who was playing in goal due to the unavailability of both of Sur’s usual keepers, to thank for two fine saves early in the half. Sur were now controlling the midfield, with Ryan Chorlton in particular showing no signs of his recent absence, but the most notable among the efforts was made by Jordan Stoddart, who chased down a one on one with the San Martin goalkeeper but was unable to convert the chance.

The deadlock however was broken with only a few minutes remaining with a moment of brilliance by talented midfielder Alan Clark, providing the Blues with a welcome and well deserved victory. Winning the ball in the San Martin half, with one of his trademark slide tackles, Clark evaded the challenges of two San Martin defenders, and smashed the ball into the net from the edge of the eighteen yard box. Sur were jubilant, San Martin were distraught, and the three points were going to the Blues.

Tenerife Sur B 5:2 Tango Achaman
Tango may not be the team they once were, no longer playing at the highest level, but still a force to be reckoned with, and with Sur B still reeling from their 4-0 defeat at the hands of Ferralla Santana, they were going to have to be at their best to get the desired result.

Only four points below the league leaders, Tango showed the body language of a team expecting to win so they were surprised to say the least to find themselves 1-0 down after five minutes. Keeper Paul Lee kicked a long ball in the direction of Damien Dinsmore, the Tango centre half failed to get on it, and Dinsmore clipped it over the advancing keeper. Only five minutes later, John Parkes played a 1-2 with Jordan Stoddart who crossed the ball into the box, and Dinsmore made it 2-0 off the bar. Tango were spinning as Sur thrust forward, and Stoddart went from provider to scorer, beating three players and getting Sur’s third. Sur perhaps became over-indulgent, and just before the break, after Captain Ritchie Chamberlain had headed off the line, Tango pulled one back after the Sur defence failed to clear the ball properly, however 3-1 at halftime was a more than satisfactory score for the Blues.  Sur only had 11 players, no subs, and early in the second half the Tango team, with their five subs being employed to good effect using the local on/off rule started piling on the pressure,  and their right winger turned Sur’s Rab Finney who had been having a great game, and drove the ball past keeper Paul Lee. With Tango in the ascendancy, Sur had to withstand constant pressure, and only a timely intervention in the penalty box by player/manager Alan Nicolson stopped Tango equalising. However all this pressure was creating openings at the back, and Dinsmore got his third and Sur’s fourth, followed close after by Stoddart dispossessing the Tango keeper to put the game beyond doubt, for what was probably Sur B’s best performance of the year.
