Starlet leaves
The departure of another promising young footballer from CD Tenerife has served to place question marks against its commitment to retaining its brightest starlets.

28.01.2014 - David González triggered a little-used clause to avoid a transfer fee being an obstacle to a move away from the island.  The Spain U-16 and U-18 international has just signed for Portuguese club Leiria, who have not paid a penny given that the player has moved outside Spain and has not broken the gentleman’s agreement between Spanish teams not to poach each other’s youngsters.

Sources close to González say he was keen to move due to the lack of prospects of a run in the first team.

Tenerife are known to be angry at the departure, which some at the club feel is a ploy to move on quickly to another club in Spain, with Leiria acting merely as a go-between.
