03.07.2010 - Part of the Challenge tour, the first place in this important competition at Tecina Golf, La Gomera was taken by Álvaro Velasco in his first pro trophy win. Velasco turned professional in 2005 and has been runner up on a number of occasions, but this is his first victory. The win moved him from 44th to eighth in the Challenge Tour ranking. He took the title with 18 strokes under par, two strokes ahead of Scot, Elliot Saltman, equalling the course record along the way.. 141 players from 21 countries teed off for the opening two rounds of which the top 65 players went into the final two rounds. The hosts were delighted to be staging the competition at Tecina Golf again, and saw it as a vindication of the excellence of the course and organisational skills of their team. Winners of the pro-am trophy which preceded the main event were the professional Jesús Arruti with his amateur partners for the day, Juan Antonio Galindo, Antonio Álvarez and Imeldo Salamo. During the competition, Britains’s Daniel Denison sank a hole in one on the eighth and Jordí García Pinto (25th) was disqualified for using a wedge which is not permitted in the conditions of the European Tour. The programme will be repeated on the 8th at 1.05am, 9th at 11.45am and 10th at 1pm.
