17.08.2014 - As August got under way, CB Canarias coach Alejandro Martínez had nine members of his 12-man squad finalised and of these only two were new faces and one was a returning one. Martínez pulled off a major coup by bringing star player Blagota Sekulic back from Turkey after his disappointing stint at Fenerbahce, for whom he departed in February, triggering fears that the team would struggle to avoid relegation from the ACB league. However, not only did the La Laguna club survive comfortably and finish a healthy 11th out of 18 but Sekulic’s transfer brought in a welcome injection of cash. The Montenegran, who was the league’s MVP until his departure, had no doubts about returning to Tenerife for the new season and he will renew his excellent partnership with American Luke Sikma. Canarias will have a very formidable forward line this year now that Fotios Lampropoulos is fit after missing all last season through injury and experienced fellow-Greek Michalis Tsairelis has been signed from PAOK. Staying on for another season, in addition to Sikma, are Nico Richotti, Levi Rost, Ricardo Uriz and Saul Blanco. Uriz will share the playmaking role with the only other new signing to date, Rodrigo San Miguel.
