Whitening your teeth

line
15.10.2013 - What is teeth whitening?

This is a revolutionary aesthetic dental treatment, it is a huge step forward in its field, has enormous appeal, and is able to change the colour tone of teeth by several degrees to leave them much whiter and shinier.

What products do you use to whiten my teeth?

The current techniques are based on the use of two products:

Carbamide peroxide (generally used in outpatient care) and Hydrogen peroxide (for use in the Clinic).

 How does teeth whitening work?

These products give off molecules of H2O2 which are capable of filtering through the enamel of the teeth.  It is a process which works from the inside to show itself on the outside of the tooth.

Can you whiten all kinds of teeth?

The intensity of the whitening process depends on each patient: on the colour of his or her particular teeth which should be studied by a specialist to determine the possibilities of the treatment.  Normally all kinds of teeth respond well, except those that have been discoloured by certain antibiotics, for which an exhaustive study of the tooth is carried out and would need more sessions than a non-dyed tooth.

 Are there any secondary effects?

During the treatment it is normal that you will become more sensitive to hot and cold stimulants.  This sensitivity is completely temporary and tends to last between 24 and 72 hours after your whitening sessions.  In the long term, a tooth whitening treatment carried out by dental professionals is an aesthetic treatment and safe for patients, without secondary effects if you follow the guidance of your specialist.

Where can I have a whitening treatment carried out in a way that will be safe for my teeth?

“Teeth whitening is a medical process, registered in the General Classification of Medical Processes (CCAM)” says Doctor Moutarde, the General Secretary of the French National Dental Surgery Order.

This means that you should always go to your regular dentist, where a qualified, expert professional will advise you about which whitening treatment is best for your mouth and give you realistic prognostications about the level of whiteness you can expect, depending on each case.
