Dead baby found in the toilet
Daily News13.06.2018 - Bus station workers in Lanzarote's capital Arrecife made a creepy discovery on Tuesday morning. In the area of the toilets they found a dead newborn baby. The autopsy must now determine whether the baby was born alive and died afterwards, or if it was stillborn. Furthermore, whether the newborn was born in the sanitary facilities of the bus station or was subsequently brought there. Investigations by the National Police are still ongoing. more...

Daily News13.06.2018 - A Japanese Katana sword was found in a dumpster in the Hoya de Pedregal district of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria on Monday and seized by the Local Police. The police warned via their Twitter account, "Please be responsible. This is not the place to get rid of weapons like these. Someone could find and use them inappropriately." The blade of the long Katana sword is only sharpened on one side. In Japan it is used for fencing, among other things. more...
Daily News12.06.2018 - Yesterday, Gran Canaria's island council, the Canary Islands government, city administrations and all the islands observed a minute's silence for Marisa, who was stabbed by her husband Ángel last Friday. Island President Antonio Morales spoke out vehemently against violence against women and appealed to society to fight for the outlawing of violence. Marisa spent her whole life in this house, 31 Calle Felicidad. The couple had never attracted attention through violence or disputes.
A neighbour who couldn't understand how this could have happened explained, "I saw Marisa grow up here." She knew Ángel as a friendly and correct man. After an accident at work, he became unable to work a few years ago and has since been taking the children to school or to sports in the afternoon. No one expected such an outbreak of violence to occur in this family. more...

In the middle of the city's bustling mall, a couple had sex. Sex in the City has got nothing on this! That may have been what a passer-by thought when he was out and about in the Triana district at 5pm on the last day of May. He and other passers-by watched the two who enjoyed themselves behind the Teatro Pérez Galdós and could hardly believe it. more...

For six hours there was live music and the presentation of young talents. In the final Pablo Merino from Alcázar de San Juan, from the central Spanish province Castillo-La Mancha, prevailed. He convinced with his interpretations of 'Y hubo alguien' and 'Vivir así es morir de amor', by Marc Anthony and Camilo Sesto. The second and third places went to Adonay Santana from Fuerteventura and Alejandro Rodríguez from Málaga. more...
Motorway accident with livestock lorry
Daily News11.06.2018 - On Sunday morning, an accident occurred on the TF-5 motorway near El Sauzal involving a truck loaded with oxen. The driver was on his way to the Romeria in La Orotava. The truck overturned, leaving the animals standing on the motorway. The truck driver was given medical attention at the scene. A 77-year-old woman and a 17-year-old teenager were taken to HUC University Hospital in La Laguna suffering from moderate head trauma. The accident caused serious traffic jams. more...
Daily News11.06.2018 - At first it looked like an accident when there was an explosion in an apartment in the San Roque district of Las Palmas on Friday morning. A 49-year-old woman was found dead inside. Her husband was taken to hospital with severe second and third degree burns to 50 per cent of his body. The investigation revealed that Maria Soledad A.R. was probably stabbed to death several times by her husband Ángel with a kitchen knife prior to the explosion which was caused by escaping gas. However, it is not yet clear whether she died of these injuries or whether she was still alive at the time of the explosion and died of its consequences.
The 64-year-old committed the crime after the two children had gone to school. Nothing is currently known about the motive. Due to his serious injuries, he is not yet fit for questioning. Daily News10.06.2018 - Last Friday Loro Parque joined the international World Oceans Day. The park celebrated it with various educational and awareness creating activities. Among other things, the focus was on preventive measures to prevent pollution of the seas with plastic and to find solutions for a clean and healthy ocean. Therefore, Loro Parque and the Poema del Mar aquarium organised various educational and sensitising activities.
The aim was to draw visitors' attention to the impact of dumping plastic in the oceans and to encourage them to behave responsibly and sustainably. Several school classes visited to learn more about the projects with which the Loro Parque Fundación supports various protection measures for the sea and its inhabitants. more...
Daily News09.06.2018 - During the Caprichos Musicales event, a very special highlight will be offered over the weekend in Garachico. The Tenerife Cabildo production of the opera La Traviata by Guiseppe Verdi will be performed on Saturday and Sunday. The performance will take place in the open air on a stage at the Glorieta de San Francisco. On Saturday it starts at 9pm, on Sunday at 6pm. Tickets are available for ten euros at the Cas Cayo in Garachico or from the Tenerife Auditorium website or the Auditorium box office in Santa Cruz which is open from 10am to 7.30pm. more...
