Pool users treated after chlorine leak

Eight swimmers using Santa Cruz's municipal swimming pool required medical treatment yesterday evening after chlorine leaked from a maintenance tank into the air.

Santa Cruz - 30.07.2010 - The incident occurred as around 20 children were finishing a swimming class and returning to the changing rooms. Parents say the youngsters developed skin rashes and complained of a burning sensation in their eyes. The city's fire brigade rushed to the scene and made the chlorine tank safe. An investigation into the incident has been ordered by Santa Cruz council, which says the tank may have been faulty.
