Bank reminder on consequences of failure to submit ID evidence
Banks here have reiterated warnings to many customers who still have not provided proof of ID that their accounts may be blocked in a few weeks.

Canary Islands - 25.03.2015 - Letters have been sent out to customers, including many foreigners, and messages have been posted on Internet banking sites warning of the deadline of 30 April for the production of photographic evidence of identity, as required under money-laundering and terrorism legislation passed in 2010, which obliges banks to identify all their customers and check that they are genuine. "The threat of account freezing is serious but people are leaving it to the last minute to comply with the ID request, even though letters were first sent out back in December" said a spokesman for one major bank. Foreign customers who may not have received a letter are advised to check with their branch to see if they need to submit a copy of their passport and/or residence card.
