This year's Blue Flag awards for beaches and marinas have just been announced and the Canaries have once again done well at national level, earning a total of 46 flags.

Canary Islands - 15.05.2015 - 41 flags acknowledging compliance with criteria relating to - among other aspects - water quality, safety, environmental education and information were handed out by Spain's awarding authority, ADEAC, to beaches in the islands and a further 5 to marinas. Gran Canaria topped the regional rankings with 13 beach blue flags, closely followed by Tenerife (11), with Fuerteventura third at 7. The overall number for the Canaries is two down on last year's figure. The list of Tenerife beaches awarded the distinction this time is as follows: El Médano, Troya, Torviscas, Fañabé, El Duque, La Arena, Piscinas de Bajamar, El Socorro, San Telmo, Playa Jardín and Playa San Juan. The last-named beach in Guía de Isora boasts an interrupted Blue Flag run stretching back nearly three decades. Once again, however, there are no flags for several of the island's most famous beaches, such as Las Vistas and Los Cristianos.
