On the desert-like island of Fuerteventura, usually there is very little rain, but over the weekend there was a very heavy rainfall. In Antigua on Sunday afternoon, a record volume of 50.8 litres of rain fell per square metre. In Tuineje it was still over 11 litres. There were landslides on several country roads, and a helicopter was called out to the Barranco of Ajuy in the municipality of Pájara to save 21 hikers.

The group of hikers was stranded. An emergency helicopter from the GES service was deployed to evacuate them. o one was injured in the rescue operation.
