First forest fire warnings in Gran Canaria
High temperatures, drought and wind are the three risk factors that can lead to severe forest fires. Given Sunday and Monday's temperatures of over 30 degrees and a humidity level of less than 30 per cent, the Gran Canaria Island Council called for increased caution.

18.04.2017 - They warned against open barbecues, burning garden waste, carelessly discarded cigarette butts, and the use of equipment that could cause sparks.  Normally there are warning levels of this type in the summer months between July 1 and September 30, but this year the alarm was triggered very early due to the already high temperatures for April.  For this reason, the islanders and visitors are not expecting there to be a danger of forest fires at this time of year.
