16.05.2017 - The National Police and customs officers took the fishing boat and its seven crew members to the Naval base at Las Palmas de Gran Canaria where the 80 bundles of drugs were unloaded.  The operation, which served a severe blow to the drug mafia, was supervised by the National Court in Madrid.  The investigation began in January, with the collaboration of the US anti-drugs department (DEA), and the Portuguese and British security forces.  The fishing boat, the Petrel, was not boarded until May 4, when the seven crew members were arrested.  According to the Judicial Police director, Eloy Quirós Álvarez, the drug smugglers are currently changing their strategy because of the strong controls exercised at European ports, and are increasingly working with supply ships.
