A total of 141 accidents in the water, involving participants from 22 different countries, were recorded between January 2016 and October 12, 2017. A total of 66 of these were fatal. Over the weekend, a 30-year-old Chinese guy from Fuerteventura joined the list, together with two more young men from Germany last Monday.

17.10.2017 - The statistics are led by the Germans with 20 drownings.  They are followed by the British, with eight fatalities, the French with five drowned and the Poles and Swiss with three deaths each.  About 70 per cent of the people who lose their lives in the water are foreigners. The main causes are swimming when red flags are flying, unsecured beaches and strong undercurrents.
