Appeal against giving animals as Christmas gifts
The mayor of Santa Cruz, José Manuel Bermúdez, together with his environmental councillor and the College of Veterinarians, have begun an awareness campaign against the abandonment of animals. They are not generally opposed to giving an animal as a Christmas present, but it must be understood that an animal needs care for its life. It is not a toy

09.12.2017 - This is a call for adults to be aware of the responsibility involved in taking on an animal.  The data in the city speaks for itself.  Around 74 per cent of the abandoned animals in Santa Cruz are dogs, the rest are cats.  Only about a quarter of them are voluntarily brought to the refuges. The others have been abandoned.
