Radar controls in Arona - Speeding reduced
Thanks to a mobile radar system, the speeders in the town of Arona are being slowed down. Radar controls are taking take place in various areas of the borough. This was urgently needed, as in the first week alone 135 drivers were caught for driving too fast. Some of them were driving twice as fast as the limit. The Local Police recommend more self-discipline, because excessive speed puts uninvolved third parties at risk, especially in towns and villages. If a pedestrian is hit by a car that is doing 50 to 60 kilometres an hour, it almost always ends up fatal.

10.12.2017 - Quite apart from that, the penalties are severe.  Depending on the speed limit, the fines range between €100 and €600.  A criminal offence is committed if a driver has exceeded the maximum speed limit of 60 kilometres per hour within the town or 80 kilometres per hour on country roads.  Then prison sentences can even be imposed.
