Waves damage retention wall in Las Palmas
Heavy swell hit the retention wall on the Avenida Marítima in Las Palmas over the weekend with such force that considerable damage was caused. Initially, only one lane was closed on Sunday, but later two lanes were closed after a large cavity was discovered beneath the road surface. The stretch between the university hospital and the Guardia Civil HQ was closed, even to cyclists and pedestrians.

05.02.2018 - The public were made aware on Sunday night of the probable traffic chaos during the rush hour, and commuters were asked to allow for long traffic jams.  After working all night long on the road and its fortification, one lane was cleared at around 4am to prevent a complete standstill. Another complicating factor is that the repairs can only be done at low tide.
