Stephen Hawking has passed away, R.I.P.
The brilliant astrophysicist Stephen Hawking died peacefully at his home this morning, aged 76. From the age of 21, he suffered from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a rare disease that kills the muscles, and was only given two years to live. But he survived another 55 years and conquered the world with his genius and humour. "All that came after I was 21 years old was a bonus," he said once. Hawking has written numerous books, including his theory of black holes and taught at the University of Cambridge for decades.

14.03.2018 - In Tenerife he was guest of honour several times at the international Starmus Festival.  He liked above all the climate and the hospitality on the island. From a professional point of view, he appreciated the first-class observatories in Tenerife and La Palma. The man who tried to understand the universe has also left his mark on Tenerife.
