A minute's silence for Marisa
Yesterday, Gran Canaria's island council, the Canary Islands government, city administrations and all the islands observed a minute's silence for Marisa, who was stabbed by her husband Ángel last Friday. Island President Antonio Morales spoke out vehemently against violence against women and appealed to society to fight for the outlawing of violence. Marisa spent her whole life in this house, 31 Calle Felicidad. The couple had never attracted attention through violence or disputes.
A neighbour who couldn't understand how this could have happened explained, "I saw Marisa grow up here." She knew Ángel as a friendly and correct man. After an accident at work, he became unable to work a few years ago and has since been taking the children to school or to sports in the afternoon. No one expected such an outbreak of violence to occur in this family.
